ABOUT THE CONTEST:
This year NSAI enlisted the help of Watkins College of Art & Design students in the Graphic Design department to create the artwork for the 16th Annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival. Under the guidance of their professor Dan Brawner, 12 students submitted their creative interpretations of the craft of songwriting, with images based on the festival's acoustic focus and Music City heritage. From the 12 submissions, Kristin Schleihs' at WACD was chosen for this year's Tin Pan South artwork. Kristin's image will be featured in print advertising and on the festival website.
Winner Kristin Schleihs hails from northern Wisconsin, where she taught art to K-12 graders after receiving a degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kristin moved to Nashville to pursue graphic design at Watkins College of Art & Design in the Fall of 2005, and will be graduating this coming spring. Since arriving in Nashville, she has interned in the off-air creative department at CMT, and has had the opportunity to work with the YWCA, Tennessee Organ Donor Association, and the Nashville Zoo, through class projects and work-study at Watkins. Kristin has also been freelancing her design skills and is currently working with Sharron Hubbard, a children's author from Wisconsin, to illustrate a series of board books.
Besides trying to make the world a more visually pleasing place, Kristin enjoys college sports, vintage goods, hanging out with her niece and nephews, and enjoying tasty food in the presence of good company. She also works at Atelier, a fine-handcrafted jewelry shop in Nashville.
